The Development of LCAC

Lakeside Creative Arts Centre

Update

The LCAC management group are very pleased to be able to announce that the building work to reform and refurbish Newmillerdam Methodist Church into a recognisable arts centre, namely Lakeside Creative Arts Centre, is due to commence. The appointed contractors, following a formal tendering process, are Roebuck & Holmes Ltd. The total cost is around £350,000 but with some savings to be negotiated and VAT reclaimed. The work is designed to take about fourteen weeks. The contractors will begin with some of the work designated for the lower ground floor to enable this part of the premises to come back into use as soon as possible, and allowing community users to recommence

Apart from a small amount of redesign the published plans adopted some time ago, are now fully funded particularly through the financial commitment of the Aire & Calder Methodist Circuit but with grateful thanks to local donors, charitable trusts and various other fund raising efforts.

The main changes to the building will include an access lift and renewed entrances to meet legal access standards, two galleries with new lighting and hanging systems, a wet area, an office, replaced windows, flooring, a small coffee bar and renewed accessible toilets and baby changing facilities, internet provision, new heating.

It goes without saying that we are very excited about having arrived at this point after four years dedicated work and we look forward to coming together into this renewed space for a wide range of arts-based community and church activities and programmes designed to meet the aims and objectives of the centre’s establishment. Following the Revd Rob Cotton’s retirement, in September we will be welcoming the Revd Dr Julian Pursehouse, an artist in his own right, to the ministerial appointment.
